The Artists Original Paintings & Fine Art Underwater Prints by Kim
& Kay Vaudin
"Hi! We hope you like our Underwater Paintings." Kay - "I have always loved the sea, and as I grew up in Guernsey in the Channel Islands, swam and snorkelled among the rocks and coves. These days, we are fortunate to snorkel in tropical waters , such as the Maldives, the Red Sea, Australia and Bonaire. It was a natural progression for the whole family to take up diving since John, my husband, was a diving instuctor for thirty years. The next step being to start painting all the wonderful creatures we were lucky enough to encounter." ![]()
Kim - "Some of my very first dives in Guernsey inspired the painting 'Cuttlefish Gully' and I well remember stroking the flat fish in this picture. Tropical reef paintings need more research and countless holidays (that's my excuse!). Mike and I have dived worldwide with our underwater cameras, collecting material for our paintings. Locations such as the Maldives, Galapagos, Indonesia, Borneo, Australia, United Arab Emirates, the Red Sea and Cuba have been a fantastic adventure and constant inspiration for us. We hope to visit the Galapagos and southern Indonesia next year. I paint on our 32ft trawler yacht which we live on. Mike, being a marine biologist, will check the detail in our work and can be the harshest of critics!

- "Each of the larger
paintings takes 3 - 4 months to complete due
to the immense amount of detail which goes into them. However, we
always have a very strong idea of the picture we are trying to achieve,
and Kim and I will discuss composition, colour and light source before
starting."
Kim - "We normally work on our own paintings as I think we would argue too much otherwise! However, at shows we like to take a painting with us on which we will both work, frequently changing places, much to the amazement of our audience. We can do this because our styles are similar, but our use of colour is very different.
Kay chooses subtle tones, whilst I prefer the brighter colour combinations. This can make for a more interesting live painting session! As we build up our business, it is great meeting fellow enthusiasts at the shows we attend. We also enjoy working closely on special commissions, such as one for the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth,a mural for an aquarium in the U.S.A, and a painting of the 'Mayflower' on display at the 'Plimoth Foundation' in Massechusets, U.S.A. We
are now producing original paintings which are on sale at the
shows where we exhibit our work, and a changing selection is also
available on this website.
