History of Deep Impressions

Deep Impressions specialise in underwater art and underwater paintings.

Deep Impressions began in order to recreate the tropical reefs and marine life in our seas as fine art underwater paintings and prints. Underwater photographs of tropical fish, wrecks, seahorses, dolphins, sharks and turtles on the coral reefs, and underwater locations worldwide, became the basis of our underwater fine art prints.

Diving the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and coral reefs in the Red Sea helped provide us with the underwater photographs needed for marine life paintings. From these deepsea paintings Deep Impressions managed to produce highly detailed images of fish and sealife in their natural habitat.

The conservation of sealife has always been of interest to Deep Impressions and diving, snorkelling and fishing have been family hobbies, which led to painting the marine life of the seas. Scuba diving provides the closest experience possible to enable us to photograph the many fish species in the seas.We now have 12 different underwater paintings, which have been printed in different sizes.

The larger prints are 'The Wall', a typical coral wall depicting many fish, masked puffers, sharks and turtles.'The Cave' which is painted as if looking out from inside a cave where again sharks, turtles, sweetlips and glass fish drift by, and a nursing shark rests in the shadows. 'Coral Garden' is such an attractive scene, you want to dive right in there! The Napoleon wrasse watches warily and the puffer fish puffs out as he is cross at being disturbed by the diver.'Cuttlefish Gully' is a typical British underwater scene, where Kim, our photographer, stroked the sole flatfish nestling in the sand. 'Beneath the Sound' was based in Plymouth where Kim lives on, and dives from, her boat.

Another Red Sea underwater scene is 'Between the Reefs' with a turtle, grouper and lion fish hovering near a sunken ship. 'Living Wreck' shows a typical well preserved British wreck with lobster, wrasse and dead man's fingers in the forground. Our smaller prints are of bottlenose dolphins at play named 'Old Friends'; Seahorses called 'Two of a Kind'; and two delightful southern Australian 'Weedy Seadragons'.

Our newest larger print is of a mako shark, a stunning picture, simply called 'Mako'. We also have a giclee print, which is an alternative method of printing which enables different sizes to be ordered. Our first one is a serenely coasting turtle, called 'Turtle II'

Deep Impressions exhibits at several shows during each year. The dive shows, which attract divers and scubadivers from all parts of the world, are an excellent venue for all who are interested in diving in British waters and the tropical reefs of the world. They are enthusiastic about our underwater prints as they are reminded of the wonderful dives they have had, and the marine life they have seen.
Non-divers are also very keen to purchase and collect our underwater prints as the images are colourful and original.

Our fine art prints are also of interest to the many galleries throughout the country and also aquariums, where the public can see many of the species of sealife we paint, i.e. dolphins, turtles, sharks, seahorses and many other fish.

Few artists specialise in marine life art, and therefore we find there is considerable interest shown in our unique underwater paintings and prints.
