The Wall – Fine art print
Dreaming of coral walls in Ras Mohammed
Kim – ‘Over 25 years ago and with only a few dives under my belt, I was nervous about diving Shark reef with its infamous currents. But my first dive on this 700 meter vertical wall was magical and will stay with me forever.
At that time there was a rope lying on the shallow sand and we were told to haul ourselves along it (against the very strong current) to the edge of the drop-off. As I came to the end of the rope I looked down over the cliff edge and felt vertigo! As we rounded the corner we were caught in the current and swept around the reef at great speed. I was desperately trying to take in all amazing soft corals, the schooling barracuda and the sharks below us. Then all too soon we reached the saddle between the two reefs and hit a ferocious down current. Frantically finning away from the reef the currents switched again and we were off again, flying around Yolanda, fish whizzing past us and finally landing in the calm beautiful garden under the boat. I think most of us had wider eyes in our masks that day’.
